Broadway Bridge becomes Internet sensation after refusing to fall on time

The Broadway Bridge was supposed to plunge into the Arkansas River at 10 a.m. Tuesday. But sometimes things don't go as planned.

Dozens of people ventured to the banks of the river and watched as the bridge remained intact after a scheduled detonation failed to topple the structure. People realized the explosion was no match for the 93-year-old span and began discussing why it wasn't going down without a fight.

Here are a few things overheard from spectators on the Little Rock banks of the river at the Broadway Bridge controlled-collapse:

"Why'd they have to take it down in the first place? That thing coulda stood for twenty more years."

"They should have put me in charge."

"Well if it came down when it was supposed to, what would we be talking about right now?"

"Good ol' Arkansas engineering."

"Can you imagine being the guy in charge of exploding this thing? Like, 'Whoops, sorry everybody. My bad.'"

"At least Arkansas will make the national news."

"That bridge is like Donald Trump."

"Nah, it's like Clinton."

"Someone did their math wrong."

"Let's start a gambling pool for when the bridge will actually fall. Someone get that on the Internet."

The non-event also took off on social media, sparking parody Broadway Bridge accounts on Twitter and Facebook. The Twitter account goaded the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department and bragged about its tenacity, and other Twitter users joined in the fun:
