Arkansas Oktoberfest

The 34th annual Arkansas Oktoberfest will be held today and Saturday in downtown Hot Springs. The event will be in the Hill Wheatley Plaza on Central Avenue, with events from 6 to 10 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $5 per day or $7 for an event pass. Children age 12 and younger will be admitted free. Opening ceremonies are at 7 p.m. today and will feature the reigning Mrs. Arkansas singing the American and German national anthems. Musical entertainment will feature alternating bands, The Waterloo German Band and The Village Polka Dots. Dance City will provide dance lessons and there will be a German dog show and the "Running of the Weiners," plus a "Rummelplatz," or kids' carnival. Featured beverages for the Oktoberfest will be Beck's, Bud Light, Coors, Miller Lite, Wiederkehr, Coca-Cola and Mountain Valley Water. Food vendors will include Mueller's Bakery and Cafe, featuring traditional German food and other delicacies, plus Belle Arti/Porterhouse, Top Chef Concessions and Flossie's Funnel Cakes.
