Start the celebrating the birth of our nation early this year with a free performance of the Conway Symphony Orchestra, followed by fireworks, at Lights Over the Lake on Saturday, June 27 at Beaverfork Park in Conway. The festivities will kick off at 7 p.m. with opening act, The Davanzo Family Bluegrass Band. The talented children of the Davanzo family, ranging in age from 10 to 14, have performed at events across Arkansas and competed in several state and regional bluegrass and fiddle competitions. The entire community is invited to hear the Conway Symphony Orchestra perform a selection of patriotic favorites. Music Director and Conductor Israel Getzov has chosen music the whole family will enjoy that includes scores from Broadway and the movies. "We'll salute our state's history with Arkansas Traveler," said Getzov. "And we'll end the program and usher in the fireworks with Stars and Stripes Forever." The evening will also include remarks from Mayor Tab Townsell, an honor guard from the Conway Fire Department, and a musical Armed Forces Salute. The evening's events are a gift to the community from the Conway Symphony Orchestra and the City of Conway. Food and drink are available for purchase. Chairs or picnic blankets are recommended, and boats may be launched before 4 p.m. Once the fireworks begin, cars will not be able to leave the park until the show is completed, due to spectators seated on the road. The Conway Symphony concert is underwritten by Southwestern Energy Company. Fireworks are provided by the City of Conway Parks and Recreation Dept. Additional support is provided by The Log Cabin Democrat and First State Bank. Beaverfork Park is located a few miles north of Conway, on Highway 25 (Old Wooster Highway) and is easily accessible from the new I-40 exit #124. In case of rain, Lights Over the Lake will be canceled. Call 501-513-3591 for rainout decision, or 501-269-1066 for more information. Just completing its 24th season, the Conway Symphony Orchestra exists to create meaningful experiences through performances and education. Originally a joint project of the music departments at Hendrix College and University of Central Arkansas, the CSO roster is composed of both professional and pre-professional musicians. Through the support of corporate and individual donors, the CSO keeps tickets affordable, making the enjoyment of classical and popular music available to the entire community.
