Clint Catalyst, Hendrix alumnus, actor, author, and associate producer, will give a performance on the spoken word at Hendrix College in Conway on April 6. His visit is the latest in the Hendrix-Murphy Foundation’s year-long exploration of the theme “Word and Image.”
The performance entitled “The Writer as Image: Words, Personae, and the Media Between” will take place on Tuesday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m., in Reves Recital Hall, Trieschmann Fine Arts Building, on the Hendrix College campus. A reception and book signing will follow. The event is free and open to the public.
Catalyst is the author of Cottonmouth Kisses, which has been deemed a “cult classic.” He is also co-editor of the anthology Pills, Thrills, Chills and Heartache, which debuted at #10 on the Los Angeles Times Bestseller List and was also a Lambda Literary Award finalist.
His literary work has been published in a wide range of anthologies, literary journals, magazines, and newspapers. He has served as contributing editor to both the Swindle Quarterly and *Surface magazines. He has also worked as the managing editor of Permission magazine in addition to being editor-at-large of three literary journals as well as his own magazine, As If: A Collection of Images, Poetry and Interviews.
As an actor, he has roles in three different feature length films being produced this year. His most recent theatrical release, director Matthew Mishory’s award-winning short film Delphinium: A Childhood Portrait of Derek Jarman (2009), has been screened in over 25 film festivals around the world, including the prestigious Raindance film festival in London as well as Microvision’s ShowMX series at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.
As a spoken word performer, he has presented his work in a variety of venues from mainstream festivals and sub-cultural gatherings to public libraries, bars, and art galleries. His awards include The Isaac Andrew Campbell Memorial Prize for Poetry, The Congress/Bundestag Scholarship, First Place in the San Francisco Levi-Strauss “Poetry Slam,” First Place in the Mixed Media category, Second Place in the Short Story category, and Second Place in Poetry for the annual Murphy Foundation Programs in Literature and Language competitions.
Catalyst was raised in Jonesboro and graduated with honors distinction from Hendrix College with a Bachelor of Arts in English. He earned his Master of Arts in Writing from the University of San Francisco. Currently, he lives in Los Angeles, where he has worked as a screenwriter for ABC as well as an associate producer for “America’s Next Top Model.”

Hello! I saw a news update on http://www.istardom.com/ClintCatalyst about the Hendrix College performance/lecture he gave, and have been trying to track down footage for the Facebook fan page I moderate - I've looked on YouTube, Vimeo, and his website, but I can't find anything! Any help would be greatly appreciated - wish I could've made it!
