The three Magrath sisters have gathered in Hazlehurst, Mississippi to await news of their dying grandfather. Lenny, the oldest, is unmarried at thirty; Meg, the middle sister, is back after a failed singing career; while Babe, the youngest, is out on bail. Their troubles, grave yet hilarious, are highlighted by their priggish cousin, Chick, and by Babe's awkward and smitten young lawyer. This play will be long remembered.
