Brown Bag Lunch Lecture: Kelly Jones

Brown Bag Lunch Lecture: This month’s Brown Bag program, presented by Kelly Jones, describes the lives and experiences of former slaves, like Aaron Brooks, who fled cotton farms and plantations in Arkansas during the Civil War to join the 54th United States Colored Troops. Jones will discuss their wartime activities and challenges, and where they lived and worked in the years following the war. Kelly Houston Jones is a Ph.D. candidate in History at the University of Arkansas and Assistant Editor of the Arkansas Historical Quarterly. She is currently writing a dissertation on the history of slavery in Arkansas. The event will be held at noon Tuesday at the Old State House Museum.
