Smokers who desire to quit are invited to participate in a free support group at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). The “Freedom from Smoking” group will meet from 1-2:30 p.m. for seven Wednesdays beginning Sept. 3 at the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute’s Patient Support Pavilion, located on the first floor. The fourth week will include one additional session. Free parking is available in UAMS parking deck 3 at the corner of Cedar Street and Capitol Avenue. To sign up, contact Pat Franklin at (501) 944-5934 or plfranklin@uams.edu. Franklin, “Freedom from Smoking” group leader, is a certified tobacco treatment specialist and advanced practice nurse at UAMS. Participants will hear first-hand stories from former smokers and learn to manage stress, avoid weight again and stay smoke free for life. “Freedom from Smoking” is offered by the UAMS Cancer Institute in conjunction with the American Lung Association.
