The University of Arkansas Little Rock is generously hosting the first Butterfly Swamp5K Fun Run on and around their beautiful campus. Bring a smile and happy feet. Running is not required, fun is! Register at Active.com or see our Facebook page Butterfly Swamp 5K Fun Run We are having this 5K fun run to raise funds to be donated to The Katherine and Ryan Palludan Memorial Endowed Fund at UALR, and genetic research into Loeys-Dietz Syndrome. Loeys-Dietz Syndrome is a rare and relatively unknown genetic syndrome that affects connective tissue and leads to Aortic Aneurysms at a very young age. Both Katherine and Ryan were affected by LDS, Ryan passed from an aortic dissection, and Katherine passed away from complications following corrective aortic surgery. Katherine and Ryan both had full scholarships to attend UALR and we would like to help other young people attend college so they can fulfill their dreams and goals and realize that they can reach for the stars. The race is going to be informal and we hope a lot of fun. If you have any questions you may contact us at the above event web address, and check it for periodic updates. I hope you join us for some fun and a good cause. The fun run/walk will begin at 0930. We hope (weather permitting) to do a Butterfly release to mark the beginning of the race. The course is mostly flat with a few slight inclines as it starts on 28th street opposite the main campus and then winds through the beautiful campus where the dogwood trees will be blooming and we should have a gorgeous Arkansas day with mild temperatures to enjoy. The race headquarters will be set up in the Jack Stephens Center on 28th street and you may start arriving at 0800. There is plenty of parking space and restaurants close by. Bathroom facilities will be available within the Jack Stephens center. The hospital that Katherine spent the last three weeks of her life had a butterfly tent and release set up one day and the smile that the butterfly’s put on her face will stay with me forever. Ryan was the most avid Florida Gator football fan you could ever wish to meet in Hog territory. Hence the name of the race "Butterfly Swamp". All donations are tax deductible, we are a 501(C)(3) organization. Questions may be directed to Deborahpalludan@gmail.com
