About the Museum of Discovery
Founded in 1927, the Museum of Discovery is the oldest museum in Little Rock. It remains a fixture of the River Market District in Downtown Little Rock attracting visitors of all ages. With over 25,000 square feet of hands-on, interactive exhibits, the Museum is a family destination "where you have worlds to discover."
The Museum is an Arkansas not-for-profit corporation recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax deductible charitable organization. The mission of the Museum is to ignite a passion for science, technology and math in a dynamic, interactive environment. In addition to permanent and travelling exhibits, the Museum offers special events, school programs, outreach programs, birthday parties and facility rentals.
In 2008, the Museum served over 95,000 people, including school groups from around the state. The Museum raises support through special events, individual and corporate donations, planned giving, bequests and special campaigns. To support the Museum of Discovery, contact (501) 396-7050 ext. 212.
The Museum of Discovery is a Smithsonian Affiliate, accredited by the American Association of Museums and a member of the Association of Science and Technology Centers and the Association of Children's Museums.
About the Arkansas Discovery Network
The Arkansas Discovery Network, an innovative network of seven museums and educational centers in Arkansas, was funded in 2006 by The Donald W. Reynolds Foundation with a grant of more than $7 million. The network focuses on making hands-on, interactive museum experiences more accessible to the state's 498,000 schoolchildren and their families. Partner museums include the Museum of Discovery in Little Rock, Mid-America Science Museum in Hot Springs, Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas in Pine Bluff, Texarkana Museums System in Texarkana, Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources in Smackover, Arkansas State University Museum in Jonesboro and the University of Arkansas Center for Mathematics and Science Education in Fayetteville. The museums support each other by sharing operational strategies, collaborating with teachers and expanding educational programs. The Network's "The Race for Planet 'X,'" a mobile "museum on wheels" outreach, brings 10 high-quality, interactive exhibits to children and adults throughout the state.
