CONWAY — The Baum Gallery of Fine Art at the University of Central Arkansas will kick off its fall exhibition season Thursday, Sept. 16 with a reception from 4-6 p.m. The fall season will be on view through Oct. 28. A second reception is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 19 from 2-4 p.m. The first featured exhibit of the fall season is the Baum MFA Biennial Competitive Exhibition: Paintings by Balingit-Lefils and McFarlane. The competitive is a juried event that features the thesis works of recent Master of Fine Arts graduates. The featured artists were selected from a national field by juror Toby Kamps, the senior curator of the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. The competitive’s two artists; Ananda Balingit-Lefils and Daniel McFarlane, will give a lecture about their work submitted to the Biennial Competitive on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. in the Art Lecture Hall of McCastlain Hall. The second and third exhibits featured this season are by Julie Blackmon, artist in residence, and Sandra Luckett, visiting professor. Fantastic Realities: Photography by Julie Blackmon is a collection of digitally manipulated photographs that include both real and autobiographical images. The concept behind this project was to question the whole idea of representational photography, what it is and where it is going. Blackmon will give a public lecture on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Art Lecture Hall of McCastlain Hall. Aqua Bomb is an installation by Luckett that incorporates an eclectic array of materials that are transformed into personal statements. Each piece of work in this exhibit hints at the humor and irony that often distinguish contemporary art from other styles of art. All gallery exhibits and events are free and open to the public and are made possible by the UCA Arts Fee. Gallery hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., and Thursday, 10 a.m.–7 p.m. The Artist in Residence program is funded by UCA’s arts fee and is administered by the College of Fine Arts and Communication.
