34th annual Arkansas Scottish Festival

April 19, 2013 2:27 p.m.

The 34th annual Arkansas Scottish Festival was held April 13-14 at Lyon College in Batesville. The long-running celebration began as a way to honor the college’s Scottish roots. Lyon College was founded in 1872 by the Presbyterian Church, which has its roots in Scotland. The college recognizes Scotland through its Scottish Heritage Program and through the annual Arkansas Scottish Festival, which brings in thousands of visitors during the weekend. New this year were a dog show with prizes in several categories, and performances by dancers from the West Magnet Elementary School for Visual and Performing Arts. Also new this year was a Community Quintathlon. Photos are by Chandra Huston of Lyon College.
