British Invasion

April 24, 2014 9:44 a.m.

Haling the Invasion It’s been so long since the British were our enemies that at the closing reception of the Argenta Arts Foundation’s “The British Invasion Fifty Years Later,” Kyle Pitts could hop the stage and auctioneer in a classical British military coat and tricorn hat to great mirth. The reception featured five artistic renderings of the Beatles by local artists Stephano Sutherlin, Doug Norton, Emily Wood and Matt McLeod; heavy hors d’oeuvres from Capers; and British rock music of the 1960s and 1970s by Steve Bates and band — which was not exclusively Beatles covers (there was definitely a Rolling Stones “Satisfaction” and The Who “My Generation” on the playlist). The price of admission helped replenish the coffers of the Foundation to the more than $5,000 between tickets and auction items.
