Smokelawn BBQ Contest

Smokelawn is a Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned BBQ contest sponsored by Oaklawn. This year's event was the second annual and brought 39 teams, competing for trophies and $17,500 in prize money. After the entries are judged, the public was invited to sample BBQ from all 39 teams and vote for the "Peoples Choice Award". Plates for this sampling were sold for $5 each, with proceeds going to Operation BBQ Relief, which provides dinners for disaster victims and the volunteers who help them in times of need. They have served 100's of meals this week in the Mayflower-Vilonia area.In addition to the BBQ, there was an antique motorcycle show, a pettting zoo & "bounce houses" for the kids, and live music.
