Newport Christmas Parade

The Newport Chamber of Commerce officially kicked off the holiday season with the annual Newport Christmas Parade on Dec. 11. Ike Wheeler, dean of institutional advancement at Arkansas State University-Newport, served as the parade’s grand marshal. The grand marshal position was one of the featured live auction-items during the 2014 Newport Chamber of Commerce banquet fundraiser. The parade traveled down Malcolm Avenue from Arkansas 69 to the Village Mall parking lot. Prior to the parade, the chamber selected winners in the commercial and noncommercial categories. The winner in the commercial category was Lindley Health and Rehab Center, and the winner in the noncommercial category was Santa’s Workshop. The parade concluded with the appearance of Santa Claus.
