Celebrating with Fireworks this July Fourth

July 1, 2016 11:50 a.m.

As central-Arkansas residents make preparations for the Fourth of July holiday, many will include fireworks in their celebrations. To ensure the safety of spectators and those who are igniting fireworks, the National Council on Fireworks Safety website offers the following tips: A responsible adult needs to supervise all firework activities. Those who are lighting fireworks should wear safety glasses and light only one firework at a time, then quickly move away. Never relight a “dud” firework. Wait 20 minutes; then soak it in a bucket of water. Shoot off fireworks outdoors in a clear area away from buildings and vehicles, and always have a bucket of water and a water hose nearby. Never carry fireworks in a pocket or shoot them into metal or glass containers. Alcohol and fireworks do not mix, so save drinking alcohol for after the show. Following these guidelines can help to ensure a safe Independence Day celebration.
