— Police are calling the death of a teen - who was struck by a car driven by an off-duty police officer on Friday night - a "tragic accident."

Patrol Sgt. Megan Streussnig-Miller, 39, was on her way to work about 8 p.m. when two girls - 10 and 16 - ran across East Harding Avenue in front of her car, police spokesman Lt. Robert Rawlinson said Saturday.

A third girl, 15-year-old Shamia Akins of Pine Bluff, tried to cross the four-lane road behind the other two girls in the 2200 block, but was struck by Streussnig-Miller's 1997 Chevrolet Camaro, police said.
