Civitan Services hires AmeriCorps Promise Fellow

— Brittney Carey of Benton has been selected by Civitan Services as an AmeriCorps Promise Fellow for the next year, September 2007 to September 2008.

Carey will be the volunteer coordinator working to bring area youth together with adult mentors to complete service projects in the community focusing on the men, women and children with developmental disabilities served by Civitan Services.

Carey will recruit Saline County youth volunteers after school and summer service projects. She will make presentations to area churches, schools and scout troops looking for young people willing to give back to the community.

A 2001 graduate of Benton High School, Carey attended Arkansas State University and Arkansas Tech University. She will graduate in December with a major in sociology and a minor in criminal justice with hopes of being a case manager or social worker.

She is the daughter of Randal and Gail Carey and has recently relocated to Benton.
