Police arrest man in choking death

— Little Rock police are investigating the city's 37th homicide this year after a man was choked to death Saturday.

Shortly before 1 a.m., a security guard at the Acme Motel, 3301 W. Roosevelt Road, called police when he heard someone screaming and noticed a man being choked at a nearby residence, Sgt. Ora Jenkins of the department's detective division said Saturday.

After arriving at the residence, 3303 W. Roosevelt Road, officers arrested Curtis Ray Williams, 42, who lives there, and charged him with first-degree murder.

Police say Williams used his forearm to choke the victim, who didn't have identification on him.

The victim's body was sent to the state Crime Lab for identification, Jenkins said.

Williams was being held Saturday in the Pulaski County jail on a $1.5 million bond, a jail representative said.
