SAU to recognize 6 alumni at dinner

— Six alumni of Southern Arkansas University will be recognized at the 2007 Distinguished Alumni Dinner at 6 p.m. on Oct. 19.

Festivities will be held in the Grand Hall of the Donald W. Reynolds Campus and Community Center on campus.

The honorees are:

Harold Jameson, the Lifetime Achievement Award. Jameson was the sports editor for the Banner-News for more than 40 years and served as SAU sports information director for seven years. TheMagnolia resident was inducted into the SAU Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Arkansas Sports Writers Hall of Fame in 2007.

Rodney N. Whalen, a Distinguished Golden Rider. Whalen, who retired in 1978 after more than 20 years of service at the rank of lieutenant commander in the Navy, has played and coached tennis and served as editor and contributing for aviation publications. He lives in Tyler, Texas.

Ronald D. Richards, a Distinguished Golden Rider. Richards of Dallas has worked in the oil and real estate industry.

Ed Choate, a Distinguished Alumni. He is president and chief executive officer of Delta Dental of Arkansas. Choate lives in Conway.

William Stringfellow, a Distinguished Alumni. Stringfellow of Little Rock is a lawyer.

Jordan Babineaux, the Young Alumni award recipient. Babineaux plays for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League.
