$121 million in revenue earns Bob Shell award as top manager in state

— In 2006, Baldwin and Shell Construction Co. of Little Rock earned more than $121 million in revenue, higher than any previous year. For that accomplishment, Bob Shell, the company's president and chief executive officer, was named the Top Manager of the Year by the Sales and Marketing Executives Association of Arkansas. Shell became the 40th Top Manager of the Year at a Sept. 27 reception at the Embassy Suites.

Shell has been part of the general contracting firm since starting as a temporary employee in 1950. The firm works in Arkansas only. Among his many accolades, Shell is lifetime director for the Arkansas chapter of Associated General Contractors of America, a charter member of the Arkansas Construction Hall of Fame and this year's General Contractor of the Year from the American Subcontractors Association of Arkansas.

He is a board member of Baptist Health Foundation, Alzheimer's Arkansas, Twin City Bank and Metropolitan YMCA, to name a few.

Shell was accompanied at the banquet by his wife, Ginny, and daughters, Cathy Gammill, Allison Nelson and Linda Squires.

The evening's speakers included Sherri Jones, SMEA president and event chairman;

Dick Marendt, who gave the history of the sales and marketing networking association;

Dave Woodman, master of ceremonies; and Jack Ramer, Sharon Heflin, Scott Copas and Doug Henson. Lawrence Hamilton performed.

Past award recipients include Terry Renaud, Barbara Graves, Bob Birch and Russ Harrington Jr. Board members at the dinner included Jack Hendrix, Don Smith and wife Jan, Robby Matthews, Marcia Cook, Phil Bartos and wife Janet, Vickie Siebenmorgen and husband John, Paul Hastings, Jim Hyden, Marsha Davis, Tracey Bemis and wife Donna, and Carol Langston.

Members of the Top Management Night committee were Jason Burt, Kathy Marchese, Dick Marendt and wife Judy and Tim Orellano. Jeanie Reed is executive director.
