Earnings report

— Companies reporting quarterly earnings Monday included:

Kimberly-Clark Corp., the maker of Huggies diapers and Scott towels, reported thirdquarter net income increased 24 percent to $453.1 million, or $1.04 a share. Sales advanced 9.7 percent to $4.62 billion. Shares rose $3.05, or 4.5 percent, to close at $70.19.

Texas Instruments Inc., the world's biggest maker of mobile-phone chips, reported net income increased 11 percent to $776 million, or 54 cents a share, from $702 million, or 46 cents, a year earlier. It posted a thirdquarter sales decline of 2.6 percent, to $3.66 billion. Shares rose 35 cents to $34.27.

American Express Co., one of the nation's biggest credit-card issuers, said third-quarter profit rose 10 percent to $1.07 billion, or 90 cents per share, from $967 million, or 79 cents per share. Revenue rose 11 percent to $6.95 billion, from $6.27 billion. Shares fell 24 cents to $56.87 before the market closed, but rose in afterhours trading after the results were reported.

Hasbro Inc., the world's second-largest toy maker, said thirdquarter net income jumped 62 percent to $161.6 million, or 95 cents a share. Sales climbed 18 percent to $1.22 billion. Shares dipped 1 cent to close at $28.40.
