Quarry worker struck by train, injured; boss begins inquiry

— A quarry worker was seriously injured Monday afternoon after he was struck by a train that carries materials from the site, the Pulaski County sheriff's office said.

The man was conscious as an ambulance crew treated him before taking him to UAMS Medical Center, said John Rehrauer, a sheriff's office spokesman said.

Th e accident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. at the Granite Mountain Quarries, 1010 Shamburger Lane, just south of Little Rock. Rehrauer knew few other details of the accident, which occurred on the company's property and wasbeing treated as an industrial accident.

Haskell Dickinson II of Granite Mountain Quarries said he couldn't offer any details yet.

He was at the hospital while the employee was undergoing surgery.

"We're investigating it right now," he said. "We don't know how it's going to turn out."
