Thank goodness for Mississippi

The great thing about Mississippi: They always find a way to make Arkansas look good. Whether it's education or football, the Magnolia State seems to land itself in last place, right behind Arkansas.

The SEC standings are no different. After Saturday's 44-8 win against Ole Miss, the Razorbacks (4-3, 1-3) are in fourth place in the SEC West, just ahead of both Mississippi teams.

But, if the first game of the second half of the season is any indicator of the next five games, those standings should change and make for a fun November. After a likely homecoming win this Saturday, the Razorbacks will need one more victory to become bowl eligible, and after Tennessee and South Carolina's losses Saturday, a decent bowl game is a possibility.

It may have taken seven games, but this Razorback squad is starting to click.

Reggie Herring's defense has only allowed one touchdown in its past two SEC games. Darren McFadden was able to bounce back after the un-Heisman-like performance against Auburn. Felix Jones is running faster than ever. Heck, even Casey Dick is beginning to play better.

Everything is looking good.

If I had the money, I would get a banner plane this week to fly over Fayetteville that read, "The best is yet to come." Well, I hope it is.

UP NEXT - It's homecoming in Fayetteville as the Razorbacks take on a team with the longest losing streak in the nation. The Florida International Golden Panthers (0-7) are quite possibly the worst team the Hogs will face this season.

FIU's defense has given up an average of 39 points per game, and the offense isn't much better, averaging only 8.3 points per game. This one is a no-brainer.

Let me put it this way: There is a better chance of Mitch Mustain transferring back to Arkansas than the Razorbacks losing this game.

The only question going into this week's matchup is, "Which Razorback team will show up?" Will we see a flaccid performance like the one against Chattanooga, or will last week's team that routed an SEC opponent show up? Anything can happen at this point. We'll find out Saturday.

PREDICTION - Arkansas 51, Florida International 10
