Adviser to Truman to speak at UALR

— Ken Heckler, a former congressman and adviser to President Harry Truman, will talk about his political career at 6 p.m. today at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Donaghey Student Center Room D.Admission is free, and the public can attend.

The 93-year-old Keckler is the author of The Bridge at Remagen, Working with Truman and Super Marine, the story of Arkansas native Orland Duncan "Buddy" Jones and his family during the pre-Depression and World War II years. The book, based on personal letters and interviews, details the life and times of the Arkansas Marine, who died on Iwo Jima.

Before Heckler began his writing career, he represented West Virginia in the House of Representatives. He was an academician and an adviser to Truman.
