Jurors undecided, told to return today

— Jurors deciding the fate of Vertis Clay of North Little Rock, who is on trial on a charge of murder and faces a potential death sentence, went home Tuesday without reaching a verdict.

They were ordered to return at 8:45 a.m. today to resume deliberations.

On Tuesday the panel of five men and seven women deliberated about seven hours, in that time sending out two notes.

The first note asked the judgeto explain the difference between first-degree murder and second-degree murder, both of which are options if the jurors convict Clay.

The next note requested a TV, a DVD player and a VCR, presumably so they could view videos shown in court of searches that federal agents conducted at Clay's home and the home of the victim, Darryl Johnson of Pine Bluff.

The trial is in its fourth week before U.S. District Judge Bill Wilson Jr. in Little Rock.
