— Police say dad shot unloading handgun

A man waiting to pick up his child from a Sherwood elementary school Tuesday accidentally shot himself in the hand and leg while unloading a gun, police said.

Justin Willig, 26, of Sherwood decided to unload the handgun so his child wouldn't have access to a loaded firearm, police said.

Sitting in his Chevrolet Z-71 pickup outside Sylvan Hills Elementary School just beforenoon, the gun discharged, firing a bullet through Willig's left hand and into his left leg. Willig stumbled into the school, where a school nurse called 911.
