HELPFUL HINTS

— DEAR HELOISE: I love your column and have a hint that might be helpful to folks. Since the advent of toothbrushes with extra-large handles, I have started using small pots (with the hole in the bottom) meant for plants. They hold the toothbrushes and toothpaste. Each family member can have a different-color pot.

DEAR HELOISE: I read your recipe for monkey bread again in the paper and have been making your recipe for years.

I don't have the patience to roll each piece of biscuit into a ball and put it in the sugar mixture to coat it.

I put the brown sugar, nuts and cinnamon into a plastic bag, and as I cut each tube of biscuits, I just drop them into the bag and shake, making sure they are all coated with the sugar mixture. Then I just pour the bag full of biscuit pieces and all remaining sugar into the pan, and pour the melted butter over the top and bake.

My family doesn't care if each piece is a round ball. They just slice it and eat!

DEAR HELOISE: "Shoulder bumps" are a common problem when hanging shirts and sweaters on hangers. To alleviate this, I usually hang garments inside out. An occasional small "indent" is less noticeable than the alternative.
