MALVERN: Governor's task force to meet with plant workers

— Employees of Prescision Industries continue to go to work, but not for much longer.

Fayetteville-based Leggett & Platt Aluminum Group announced on Oct. 12 that they will close the die-casting plant on 1002 East Section Line Road in December, according to published reports.

At 8 a.m. today the more than 250 production, administrative and management personnel will meet with the Governor's Dislocated Worker Task Force at the Arkansas Workforce Center in Malvern, said Gary Burroughs, president of the Malvern Chamber of Commerce.

According to a state Web site, the task force will discuss retraining and educational opportunities, unemployment insurance, social service programs, stress associated with unemployment, credit counseling, insurance needs and tips onhow to find a new job.

Besides the Malvern plant,other Leggett & Platt facilities in Arkansas include Pace Industries in Harrison and B&C Die Cast in Jonesboro. The company operates plants in eight states, besides Arkansas, and Mexico.
