BENTON — The third annual Saline County Coat Closet will take its final collection on Monday at the Gene Moss Building in Tyndall Park. Distribution is scheduled for Tuesday in the same building for those needing to receive coats.
The event is being co-sponsored by Arkansas Prosthetics and Pedorthics and the Churches Joint Council On Human Needs (CJCOHN).
Last year more than 700 coats were given out to area residents as a result of the drive. The program began in 2005 in response to Hurricane Katrina evacuees who had relocated to Saline County.
"The need was recognized immediately for our local residents, and a continued response has grown from there," said Paul Johnston of Arkansas Prosthetics and Pedorthics. "The previous unrecognized need in our community has taken what was a one-time response to an annual community affair. The people of Saline County have shown how neighbors help neighbors through their kindness and gifts."
