— Cathedral hosts organist's recital

Philip Scriven, organist and director of music at Lichfield Cathedral in Lichfield, Staffordshire, England, will give a recital at 7:30 p.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 310 W. 17th St., Little Rock.

Scriven's program will include Toccata and Fugue in F major by J.S. Bach; Chorale Prelude on "Komm, Heiliger Geist" by Dietrich Buxtehude; "Con moto maestoso" movement from the Organ Sonata No. 3 in A major by Felix Mendelssohn; "Cantilene" movement from the Organ Sonata No. 11 by Joseph Rheinberger; an arrangement for organ of "The Swan" from The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens; Incantation pour un jour saint by Jean Langlais; Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 by Edward Elgar; Serenade by Derek Bourgeois;Elegy by George Thalben-Ball; Paean by Herbert Howells; Toccatina by Pietro Yon; and Variations on "America" by Charles Ives.

PB Symphony set to spook listeners

The Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra will open its 21st season with a concert of "Explorations of the Macabre: A Halloween Extravaganza" at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Auditorium of the Pine Bluff Convention Center, 500 E. Eighth Ave., Pine Bluff.

Violinist Ning Kam will solo in the Concert Fantasy on Gounod's Faust by Pablo de Sarasate and Tzigane by Maurice Ravel.

Charles Jones Evans will conduct an orchestration of the Toccata and Fugue in d minor by J.S. Bach; "In the Hall of the Mountain King," "Dance of the Troll-King's Daughter" and "Peer Gynt Chassed by the Trolls" from Edvard Grieg's incidental music for Ibsen's play Peer Gynt; and the two final (and spookiest) movements - "March to the Scaffold" and "Dream of a Witches' Sabbath" - from the Symphonie Fantastique by Hector Berlioz.

Comics help UCA with homecoming

Comedians Demetri Martin of The Daily Show and Seth Meyers of Saturday Night Live will headline the University of Central Arkansas Comedy Show at 8 p.m. today in the Donald W. 'Harvest Faire' at Leslie center

The Ozark Heritage Arts Center & Museum, 410 Oak St., Leslie, will host a "Harvest Faire," 3-9 p.m. today. The carnival includes games, a doorprize raffle (bring a book in good condition to benefit the Literacy Council to enter), a free 5 p.m. outdoor comedy show sponsored by Boy-, Girl- and Cub Scout groups and a 7 p.m. concert featuring north-central Arkansas performers Joe Lewis and Johnny Horton.
