'Heavy Mental' act to perform

— No, there's no "Lee" in his middle name.

Singer-songwriter David Roth is not to be confused with the once and current lead singer of Van Halen. The quieter David Roth, who calls his sound "Heavy Mental" music,has performed at the Acoustic Sounds Cafe on three occasions and is returning for a show at 7:30 p.m. today in the Great Hall of Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock.

Admission is a suggested donation of $10; $8 for senior citizens, students and military.

Roth, who lives in Orleans, Mass., on Cape Cod, has been honored at the Kerrville, Texas, Folk Festival and the Falcon Ridge, N.Y., Folk Festival. Hehas released nine CDs, the latest of which, Think Twice, is a double album released in 2004. His songs "Manuel Garcia" and "Nine Gold Medals" were used in Chicken Soup for the Soul books.

He sang his song, "Earth," at the 40th anniversary of the United Nations, and his "Rising in Love" was performed at the 100th anniversary of Carnegie Hall.

He will also play sometime between 9 and 10 a.m. today on Good Morning Arkansas on KATV-TV, Channel 7.
