'Jackets make better use of scoring half than Falcons

— The first half belonged to North Pulaski. The second to Wynne.

But the Yellowjackets did more with their half, rushing for 300 yards and scoring on four of its first five possessions to defeat North Pulaski 27-7 on Friday in Jacksonville.

North Pulaski (1-8, 1-5 5A-East) drove 71 yards in seven plays with Melven Tenner racing 40 yards up the middle to give North Pulaski its only lead of the game, 7-0 with 7:54 remaining in the first half.

Wynne, which rushed for only 90 yards in the first half, fumbled on two of its first three series in the half, which helped the Falcons take their 7-0 lead into halftime.

The Yellowjackets tied thegame on their first possession of the second half, driving 80 yards for a 5-yard touchdown run by Okie Oring. And the rout was on.

The Yellowjackets' defense allowed the Falcons only 30 yards in the third quarter, and Oring finished with three rushing touchdowns and a game-high 179 yards on 18 carries.

With the Yellow Jackets facing second-and-6 from the Falcons' 18, Oring, a 5-7 sophomore who weighs 210 pounds, dragged three North Pulaski defenders into the end zone to put Wynne ahead to stay and cap a nine-play, 84-yard drive.

After Wynne's third fumble, the Yellowjackets' Darius Davis stripped North Pulaski's Jeremy Flint to set up Oring's third touchdown. Taking the ball at the Falcons' 35, Oring raced up the middle, but was tripped up at the1-yard line. However, Oring got the ball again for a 1-yard dive into the end-zone and a 21-7 advantage for Wynne with 7:28 left.

Wynne held North Pulaski to 19 yards in the fourth quarter and added another 100-yard rusher, Romero Harper, who scored on a 61-yard run and finished with 134 yards rushing on 10 carries.

It wasn't all good news for North Pulaski in the first half. Punter Marshall Shipley was taken off the field on a stretcher after being hit while punting and was taken to an area hospital. His condition was unknown. Roughing the kicker was called on the play.

BATESVILLE 57, GREENE COUNTY TECH 6

BATESVILLE - Tim Hughes ran for five touchdowns to give Batesville the conference victory.

Hughes had touchdowns runs of 2, 15, 41 and 3 yards to give Batesville (6-3, 5-1 5AEast) a 28-0 lead with 7:27 left in the second quarter. Jeremy Boyett caught a 65-yard touchdown pass with 2:37 left in the half to give Batesville a 35-0 halftime lead. Hughes finished with 149 yards on 13 carries.

Hughes' fifth touchdown came on a 12-yard run with 8:42 left in the third quarter to put Batesville ahead 42-0. Batesville also scored on a 31-yard run with 3:54 left in the third quarter to take a 49-0 lead.

Tyler Williams scored on a 4-yard touchdown pass for Greene County Tech (0-9, 0-6) with 7:59 left to cut the lead to 49-6. Dustin Strecker scored on a 1-yard run with 2:32 left to provide the final margin.

BEEBE 28, NETTLETON 6

JONESBORO - Sammy Williams rushed for 114 yards on 29 carries to lead Beebe (8-1, 4-1 5A-East) over Nettleton (5-4, 3-3).

Williams ran for 2 yards for the game's first touchdown in the first quarter.

Kyle Williams had a 17-yard run, Josh Turner a 9-yard run and Chris Blundell returned a fumble 35 yards for Beebe's other touchdowns.
