Junction City gets all the big plays

JUNCTION CITY - Sophomore Alan Turner scored both he carried the ball, finishing 42 yards and 2 touchdowns as Junction City defeated Hampton 55-6.

Junction City (8-0, 4-0 2A-7 will play undefeated Bearden e regular-season finale next week with the conference championship at stake. Hampton (2-7, 1-3) is out of playoff contention.

Senior Justin Cook also had a big performance for the Dragons, rushing for 99 yards and a touchdown on two carries and caught a 67-yard touchdown pass tion City scored on its first ssessions.

Cook and Turner both struck for long touchdowns in a threeminute span late in the first quarter. First, Cook caught a short pass from quarterback Dustin Franklin and turned it into the 67-yard scoring play. Then, Turner took his first carry of the game 72 yards for a touchdown and senior Eric Major made the fourth of his eight extra-point kicks to give Junction City a 28-0 lead.

Cook and Turner were at it again in the second quarter. Cook broke free for a 63-yard touchdown run and Turner followed it up with a 70-yard score. Major kicked the extra point to make it 42-0 with 9:15 left in the second quarter.

DES ARC 8, HAZEN 6

HAZEN - Quarterback Nathan Holloway scored on a 1-yard run then ran in a twopoint conversion to lift Des Arc (5-4, 3-2) to a 6-2A Conference upset over Hazen (7-2, 3-2).

Hazen took the lead in the first quarter on its opening drive. Terry Loudermilik ran 45 yards for the touchdown, but the extra-point attempt was no good.

Des Arc took the lead on Holloway's score and conversion near the end of the half.

MOUNT IDA 48, FOREMAN 6

FOREMAN - Justin Baker ran for two touchdowns to help Mount Ida (9-0, 4-0) stay unbeaten with a 7-2A Conference victory over Foreman (1-7, 0-4).

Baker scored on runs of 6 and 4 yards.

Taylor Elder scored on a 47-yard run and passed 41 yards for another touchdown toTroy Thew. Chad Wilson returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.

Justin Baker had a 24-yard run and Jarrod Cano a 14-yard run for Mount Ida's other touchdowns.

Drew Tankersly caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Ben Cody in the second quarter for Foreman's only score.

CARLISLE 39, CLARENDON 6

CARLISLE - Kamrawn Russell rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns and Clifton Wilson scored twice as Carlisle (8-1, 4-1) won a 6-2A Conference game over Clarendon (4-5, 1-4).

Russell's touchdown runs were for 9 yards each.

Wilson scored on a 3-yard run and a 1-yard run.

Colin Torain scored on a 14-yard run and Alan Polk had a 2-yard run for Carlisle.

MURFREESBORO 35, SPRING HILL 6

MURFREESBORO - Marc McRae passed for 228 yards and three touchdowns and ran back an interception for a score to lead Murfreesboro (8-1, 3-1) past Spring Hill (4-4-1, 2-2) in a 2A-West Conference game.

McRae threw touchdown passes to Zach Bufkin, DeMarcus White and Garrett Wilson. McRae completed 11 of 18 passes. Bufkin caught three passes for 95 yards.

Kenneth Blake scored Murfreesboro's other touchdown on an 8-yard run.

Spring Hill's Brandon Otis rushed 25 times for 142 yards and scored on a 47-yard run.

EARLE 37, PALESTINE-WHEATLEY 28

PALESTINE - Five players scored touchdowns as Earle (7-1, 4-1 6-2A) defeated Palestine-Wheatley (0-8, 0-5).

Eric Cox scored first for Earle on an 11-yard run in the first 29 seconds of the game. Steven Meredith passed 25 yards to Darren Weeden. Benques Williams had a 30-yard touchdown run to cap the 21-point first quarter.

Roosevelt Williams followed with a 20-yard touchdown run and A.J. Washington added an 11-year run for Earle's last score. The last two touchdowns were followed by two-point conversions.

All of Palestine-Wheatley's points came in the second half.

BEARDEN 62, HERMITAGE 6

HERMITAGE - Senior quarterback De-Wayne Watts rushed 8 times for 203 yards and 4 touchdowns to lead top-ranked Bearden past Hermitage in a Class 2A nonconference game.

The Bears (9-0) host No. 2 Junction City in a 7-2A East showdown next Friday night.

Watts also completed 5 of 13 passes for 98 yards and 2 touchdowns. Senior Carlos Chambers ran 8 times for 72 yards and had a 32-yard touchdown reception.

Bearden outgained Hermitage 424-85.
