4 die in highway accidents in state

— Four people were killed on Arkansas highways in separate collisions Friday and Saturday, Arkansas State Police said.

William Cavenar III, 43, of Corning was killed while traveling north on U.S. 67, south of Shannon.

Cavenar's 1998 Oldsmobile crossed the centerline and hit a southbound tractor-trailer driven by Larry Fennert of Waldorf, Minn., about 7 p.m. Friday.

On Saturday, two people were killed on Interstate 40 in Conway County.

Benjamin Godfrey, 22, ofConway was heading west on the interstate in a 2000 Chevrolet pickup when it crossed the median into the eastbound lane, hitting a 2003 Ford Focus driven by Andy Fischer, 27, of Russellville.

Both men were killed in the accident, which happened around 5:30 a.m.

In an unrelated accident, a Forrest City woman was killed after the vehicle she was driving hit a tractor-trailer.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday, Jessica N. Hill, 19, of Forrest City and Lauren E. Rolland, 18, of Widener were traveling west onInterstate 40 in a 1997 Plymouth Breeze when the vehicle crossed the median, police said.

The vehicle, driven by Hill, struck an eastbound tractortrailer rig in its axle.

Hill was pronounced dead at Forrest City Medical Center.

John H. Poe, 60, of Memphis, the driver of the tractor-trailer, was not injured.

Police said Rolland was taken to Forrest City Medical Center. A hospital spokesman said Saturday that Rolland was not a patient there and declined to say whether Rolland had already been discharged.
