LIVE MUSIC: The Meat Puppets back from the dead

— The Meat Puppets, reunited after a dozen years, will headline a show Thursday night at Sticky Fingerz Chicken Shack, 107 Commerce St., Little Rock.

Ha Ha Tonka, a Springfield, Mo.-based band named for a Missouri state park, will open the allages show at 10 p.m.

In 2006, Curt Kirkwood announced he would again work with his younger brother Cris Kirkwood, who had survived heroin and crack cocaine addictions and an 18-month jail sentence for assaulting a post office security guard. The Phoenix-based Kirkwoods had not made a Meat Puppets album since No Joke! in 1995. In mid-July, the band released Rise to Your Knees, a return to the group's punk rock sound.

Ha Ha Tonka released its debut CD, Buckle in the Bible Belt, on Bloodshot Records on Sept. 11. The album features songs about meth problems in rural areas, backwoods prejudices, nationalism and rites of passage.

Singer-songwriter Kevin Kerby, formerly the front man of local band Mulehead, will perform a solo show at 9 p.m. Thursday at the White Water Tavern, West Seventh and Thayer streets, Little Rock.

Admission is $5.

The Gougers, an Austin, Texas, band will headline at the White Water on Tuesday night. Sean Rock and the Toltecs will open the show at 10 p.m.
