The revenue laws of Arkansas are as good as could be framed, in the opinion of State Auditor Avery E. Moore. He admits that there are many defects in the present system of assessing property and of collecting and handling taxes, but he declares that the trouble lies in the failure of the officers to enforce the law and in the failure of the people to do their duty in obeying the laws.

MEMPHIS - Mrs. Grace Lorch of Little Rock refused to go into executive (closed) session with the Senate Internal Security subcommittee. Her husband, a white professor at Philander Smith Negro College, is currently under a contempt citation from the House Un-American Activities Committee. "I was told nothing about an executive session," Mrs. Lorch said. "Anything I have to say I want plenty of people to be there to hear it."

WARREN - The Warren police have been holding a 70-pound pig named Prissy since Saturday in connection with a traffic violation. The pig's owner was charged with driving while under the influence of intoxicants and will be released, along with her pig, when she is able to pay the $210 fine.

ETOWAH - To mail a letter from Etowah City Hall to a house about 300 yards away, Mayor Charles McCullum allows at least three days for delivery. The town of 353 residents has five ZIP codes.
