PINE BLUFF - Mrs. Mary Quackenboss, the New York woman lawyer who created a sensation at Jackson, Miss., recently when she asked for a warrant against O.B. Crittenden, a wealthy planter at Lake Village, on a charge of peonage, recently spent several weeks in Pine Bluff, being a guest at the Hotel Jefferson.

50 YEARS AGO Oct. 29, 1957

MEMPHIS - Mrs. Grace Lorch refused to testify at a Senate Internal Security Subcommittee hearing. "I'll see you up a tree before I'll go into any executive session," said Mrs. Lorch.

Circuit Judge Randall Williams ordered Mary (Lee) Orsini's transfer "forthwith" from the county jail to the state Correction Department. Judge Williams added, "Forthwith means this afternoon."

Paula Corbin Jones asked a federal judge to allow her to simplify her sexual harassment case by dropping defamation and loss of reputation claims. By dropping claims involving reputation and defamation, it seems Jones' attorneys are hoping that their client's past activities will become out of bounds.
