Searcy voters say no to 1% city sales tax

— Searcy voters rejected Tuesday a temporary 1 percent city sales tax to pay for fire and police services and for infrastructure needs.

Complete but unofficial totals in the special election were:

Against . . . . . . . . . . . . . .... 1,112

As proposed, the tax would have taken effect Jan. 1, 2008, and expired after three years.

It was predicted to generate between $5 million and $5.5 million yearly.
