What is Coco the bear doing in Michigan?
ADVERSTISMENT
LITTLE ROCK Visit beautiful Cadillac, Mich., home to shopping along President Clinton Avenue and horseback riding near DeGray Lake State Park.
The only problem is those scenes can only be found in Arkansas.
Images shot by the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism to draw tourists to the Natural State have turned up on a Web site for Cadillac in the Great Lakes State. Another tourism Web site showing a collage for the city includes an image shot of Coco the Bear, a black bear sticking its tongue out playfully at a photographer from a tree limb at Mount Magazine State Park in Arkansas.
"This is so bad, the bear even has a name," said Joan Ellison, a spokesman for the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism.
The Cadillac Area Visitors Bureau Web site shows a stated scene from Little Rock's River Market District and the photograph of horseback riding in the Arkansas state park.
The other Web site, See Ya There! Vacation and Travel, shows a collage of images surrounding an ad for Cadillac, urging visitors to experience its "close encounters." In the ad, Coco the Bear can be seen in one still. Other Arkansas pictures in the ad include a couple playing golf, a father and son on a lake lit by a sunset and an image of women shopping in Hot Springs. Some images even have been seen in an advertising insert.
Ellison said Thursday morning she contacted See Ya There! but has yet to hear back from the company.
See Ya There! did not immediately return an e-mail message from an Associated Press reporter. A woman who answered a telephone call to the Cadillac Area Visitors Bureau initially said the photographs on the bureau's Web site were of the city.
After being told in detail about the Arkansas photographs, she said she thought they were stock photos and said they would be removed from the site. She refused to offer her name or the name of the bureau's executive director.
