— An agricultural company that makes acid-based products says it will open a plant in Osceola and eventually employ 50 people.

Company owner Carl Ueland of Actagro LLC said Friday he plans to hire 15 people initially. Based in Biola, Calif., Actagro's organic, acid-based products are designed to work with other plant nutrients. The company markets to growers and dealers.

Ueland said the plant would open in six months to a year. He said the Mississippi County site was chosen because sales are on the rise. The plant will be located in the former building of furniture maker Eck-Adams.

County Economic Developer Clif Chitwood said the company has potential to grow into a significant industry.
