Reggie Chitwood of Van Buren has been elected national vice commander of the Civil Air Patrol.

The nonprofit Air Force auxiliary group said Thursday that Chitwood was selected by vote of the CAP's national board. Chitwood is currently the CAP's national chief of staff, responsible for directing and overseeing the organization's national staff and advisers.

As vice commander, his main duty will be helping the national commander lead more than 56,000 volunteers in carrying out the group's missions, including emergency search services.
