Arkansas Craft School offers training

MOUNTAIN VIEW - Ozarka College in Mountain View hosted the first in a series of training programs for artisans offered by the Arkansas Craft School on July 26 and 27.

Participating artisans completed courses on marketing and business planning at the Ozarka campus in Mountain View. Instructors included Phillip Walrod, Paul Cauldwell, Roberta Katz Messenger and KarlaRush.

Wright Pillow, executive director for the Craft School, said the Arkansas Craft Guild Education and Support Association Inc. developed the Arkansas Craft School concept through its process of long-range planning, which began in 2005. The Craft School concept meets a need to provide training and support for new and young artisans as well as practicing artisans.

The Arkansas Craft School includes partnerships with the Ozark Folk Center and Ozarka College. Other programs will be offered, with the next event being "Craft in the Creative Economy in the Natural State." This event is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 11, and Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Ozark Folk Center.
