MUSIC SCENE: Saving Jane flies high on 'Supergirl' Olympic buzz

— Saving Jane has no "Jane," so fans perhaps picture lead singer Marti Dodson in the role of "Supergirl," the band's first hit single, and the theme song for a couple of other "supergirls" - Olympic medal-winning gymnast Nastia Liukin and race car driver Danica Patrick.

The band will bring its superhero song and show to central Arkansas for a performance tonight at Juanita's, 13th and Main streets, Little Rock. Junior will open the show at 9 p.m.

Veteran Jamaican reggae rockers The Itals will play at 9 p.m. today at the Revolution Room, 300 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock.

Tickets are $7 for those ages 21 and over, $10 for those between ages 18 and 21. Call (501) 823-0090.

A roots rock evening is on tap tonight at Sticky Fingerz Chicken Shack, 107 Commerce St., Little Rock.

The 9:30 p.m. show will feature Damn Bullets and Chris Denny & the Old Soles. Admission is $6.

Saturday night, the club will feature a triple-header, with Grand Serenade as the headliner. The 8:30 p.m. show opens with The Nobility, from Nashville, Tenn., and Isaac Alexander. Grand Serenade and Alexander are central Arkansas acts who record for Max Recordings in Little Rock.

Crisis! returns to Cajun's Wharf, 2400 Cantrell Road, Little Rock, for a show at 9 p.m. today. Admission is $5. Call (501) 375-5351. Crisis! is known for its Southern rock/classic rock cover repertoire. Members of the band are Gregg Herning, Terry Ozanich, Dan Stringer, Paul Baumgardner and Scott Harpster.

Jazz and blues will fill the weekend calendar at The Afterthought, 2721 Kavanaugh Blvd., Little Rock.

Rodney Block & Co. will provide the jazz tonight and The Big John Miller Band will provide the blues and the bluesrock Saturday night.

Both shows start at 9 p.m. Cover charge is $7 each night.

Hard Times will perform a bluegrass concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m.

Sunday at the WhistleStop Theater on U.S. 63 south in Mammoth Spring, which will be hosting other "Old Judge Day" activities.

Hard Times, which was formed some three years ago, consists of Chuck Hackworth on lead vocals and mandolin, Doyle Wake on lead vocals and guitar, Dale Martin on fiddle, Roger Smith on banjo and Art Bell on bass and as master of ceremonies.
