FAYETTEVILLE Arkansas tailback Michael Smith has been suspended for today's season-opening game against Western Illinois, a source close to the program told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Friday.
Smith's suspension, for violating NCAA policy regarding the use of textbooks, was for one game only, the source said. No other Razorbacks were involved in the incident.
Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino could not be reached for comment Friday evening.
Arkansas has self-reported the incident, which was termed a minor, secondary violation of NCAA rules by the source, to the governing body of college athletics.
For more information see Saturday's Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
