Pulaski Academy wins 5A championship

Spencer Keith set a state record for yards passing in a season, and Pulaski Academy held off Helena-West Helena 35-32 Saturday night to win the Class 5A championship.

Keith threw for 244 yards, most of it in the first half as the Bruins built a 35-12 lead. They were shut out in the second half but managed to run the final 5:18 off the clock to secure the win.

Keith threw for 5,308 yards this season, breaking Thomas Thrash's mark of 5,272 set in 2001. Thrash also played for Pulaski Academy.

Helena-West Helena (12-1-1) beat the Bruins in the season opener 46-29. Pulaski Academy (13-1) didn't lose again.
