House committees select 2 chairmen

— Rep. Allen Maxwell, D-Monticello, will be the House chairman of the Legislative Council for the next two years and Rep. Johnny Hoyt, D-Morrilton, will be the House chairman for the Legislative Joint Auditing Committee.

The House members on the two panels elected Maxwell and Hoyt to their respective posts Monday.

Incoming House Speaker Robbie Wills, D-Conway, said Tuesday that House rules don't preclude him from appointing Maxwell or Hoyt as a committee chairman for the next two years when he makes the appointments next month.

Maxwell has been vice chairman of the House Revenue and Taxation Committee for the past two years.

Last month, senators on the council re-elected Sen. Hank Wilkins, D-Pine Bluff, as the Senate's chairman of the council and elected Sen. Bobby Glover, D-Carlisle, as the Senate chairman of the auditing committee.
