FAYETTEVILLE Steve Clark, the former Arkansas attorney general who was driven from office for misspending state money, has been named leader of the Fayetteville Chamber of Commmerce.
The chamber confirmed Tuesday that Clark is its new chief executive officer. Clark mounted an unsuccessful run for Fayetteville mayor earlier this year.
Clark was convicted in 1990 of felony theft for misusing a state credit card, a scandal that scuttled a run for governor and cost him his law license. He paid $15,000 in fines and court costs but declared bankruptcy before the state could collect an additional $18,500 the state said he still owed.
Clark, a Democrat, was pardoned in 2004 by then-Gov. Mike Huckabee, a Republican.
