Florentz Estates to be dedicated

CONWAY - Independent Living Services Inc. of Conway will dedicate a 14-unit apartment complex, Florentz Estates, from 3-5 p.m. Tuesday. Activities will include tours and a tree planting about 4 p.m.

Florentz Estates is named for the late Nils Florentz, who served on the first board of the Arkansas Children's Colony, now Conway Human Development Center, and donated much of the land where CHDC is located.

His daughter, Eleanor, is a resident of an ILS group home.

ILS has provided housing and services for people with developmental disabilities since 1970 and serves 200 consumers in five group homes, three apartment complexes and individual homes in Faulkner County and its environs.

Directions to Florentz Estates: east on Siebenmorgen Road, left on Trison Lane (past Freyaldenhoven Nursery), left on Andrews Drive, right on Potter Street, left on Addy Brook Street.

The project was an effort by Jackie Fliss, ILS executive director, combining funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Federal Home Loan Bank and the city of Conway in cooperation with local developer Jim Hawks.
