A man has been arrested in the weekend shooting at Arkansas State University in which one student suffered a minor injury.

University Police Chief Jim Chapman said Brice Demand Parker, 20, of Jonesboro turned himself in to campus police Monday evening and was scheduled for a bond hearing Tuesday.

Parker, who is not a student, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a handgun on school property, both felonies. He was in the Craighead County Detention Center.

Police said someone fired a gun several times Saturday on the parking lot at NorthPark Quads just before 2:00 a.m. Student Alfred Louis, was grazed by either a bullet fragment or a piece of gravel. Louis, who is an offensive lineman for the ASU Indians, was treated at a hospital and released.

Police said that the shooting stemmed from an argument at a party at an armory earlier in the evening and that Louis was not the target of the shooter.

"This case was brought to a successful conclusion through the efforts of the officers of the University Police Department, with assistance from students who do not want to see any more violence on their campus," Chapman said.
