The University of Arkansas board of trustees will consider Friday forgoing a national search and choosing an insider, G. David Gearhart, as the university's next chancellor.
UA System President B. Alan Sugg told two faculty governing bodies Wednesday at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville that he'll recommend replacing Chancellor John A. White with Gearhart, the "architect" of the campus' $1 billion fundraising campaign.
Gearhart, 55, has been vice chancellor for university advancement since 1998.
"I'm honored that Dr. Sugg has nominated me," Gearhart said Wednesday night. "I don't really want to say much more than that because I want to respect the board."
